Welcome to Kosrae | Accomodation | Diving in Kosrae | Kosrae Directory | Kosrae Sights

Like most Micronesian islands, and I hope I am not being too immodest, Kosrae is very beautiful. Kosrae’s reef flats that surround the island are said to be the most pristine in the whole world. I myself have not been to Kosrae, but many that have been there tell me that their experience was worth everything they invested in it. There are several sandy beaches among the mangrove trees and these are exquisite.
Kosrae is made up of seventy percent of mountains. This means that most of the population lives in coastal villages, and indeed there are five of such villages. Hoping that I am not mistaken, these five villages are: Tafunsak, Walung, Utwe, Malem, and Tofol. There is also a little island right beside the big main one and the largest village is on this one, named Lelu (the island is the one named Lelu). There are ruins there, the Lelu Ruins. This island is connected to the main one by a seven hundred thirty-meter long causeway.
This taken from another source “the surrounding reef boasts some of the most amazing marine life and barracuda diving in the world.” If this is anything close to what the real thing, you can expect to see me on the first plane to Kosrae. There are snorkeling and diving tours available and like Chuuk, there are several Japanese ships as well as several American planes lying about in Lelu harbor. Also, it is believed that there is buried treasure somewhere in Utwe harbor. They say that the best advice is to hire a car, drive to different villages, and stop at some of the seriously enticing beaches for a swim. The villagers are very friendly and very hospitable, but a warning, be sure you ask around before you go swimming, you wouldn’t want to offend anyone!

Welcome to Kosrae at micronesia.com, your source for information on Kosrae, one of the four states of The Federated States of Micronesia. Kosrae is a fascinating yet little-known destination, made up of many islands surrounded by a barrier reef. These islands are an excellent destination for the adventurous traveller as they are still in a pristine state, not yet being frequented by hordes of tourists. Kosrae is also a scuba diver's paradise, being the home of one of the most famous ship-wreck sites in the world.
The Kosrae Village Resort
Traditional thatched bungalows on the shores of Kosrae, gourmet restaurant and lounge, 5 Star Padi dive center & handicap accessible. Bungalows nestle among coconut, banana and mangrove trees, waves breaking on the reef, a pod of spinner dolphins just beyond the reef leaping joyfully out of the water!
Pacific Treelodge Resort
Rest, relax and sleep in cool, clean comfort, in cottages perched on the edge of the mangroves. Each room has two queen beds, air conditioning, a refrigerator, mini bar, cable TV, and maid service. The mangrove channels are rife with fish and crab, and the incredible mangrove trees provide welcome shade and arresting beauty. And soon, you'll be able to stroll right down the mangrove walkway to get good eats, when the Treelodge restaurant opens for business.
Beautiful hard coral gardens punctuate the eastern side of the island. On the west, the gardens give way to plunging walls. Sharks, dogtooth tuna, barracuda schools and other exciting ocean citizens cal all be encountered along the reef's edge.
The island has some of the most pristine reefs in Micronesia and is perfect for photography.

Kosrae is one of the least spoiled and least developed areas of Micronesia. The people are friendly and welcome visitors. The handicrafts are beautiful and a nice souvenir to take home. The ruins of Kosrae's ancient stone city are an impressive visit.
