Chuuk is a very beautiful, friendly place, and I know this from past experience. I have a family member who went there to school. Like Yap, Chuuk is a diver’s paradise. It’s pristine and unique waters are a treat to anyone who dives for a profession or for someone who just likes to swim and snorkel and play in the waters. Chuuk has a big lagoon surrounding its many islands and atolls. Even up to today, it is called “Truk Lagoon.” It is within this lagoon that ruins or a hundred or more WWII Japanese vessels and planes can be found.
On Weno, the main island, there used to be a Japanese lighthouse and a Japanese communications center. The Japanese communications center is now known as Xavier High School. A school of high prestige, Xavier High School is one of the schools in Micronesia that many favor. Teenagers come from all over Micronesia just to attend school there, from as far away as the Marshall Islands, to as close as Chuuk’s own inhabitants, which is to be expected. I myself regret that I have not attended that school, for everyone is closely united, and everyone knows almost everything about the other, something that might at times become inconvenient.
Chuuk has many little islands here and there and they are all perfect for boating or swimming. There are even these little islands, just tiny little ones, made up of only sand and are not even a mile across. Most of these the common micronesia tourist would find fascinating. Just coming in, the plane will dare a landing, that is, the landing strip is just beside the ocean and gives you the impression that you are going to land in the ocean. But in my opinion, better in the ocean than on land. A weak joke there perhaps. Chuukese people are very friendly, and very curious I might add. Chuuk is definitely one of the homier places I have visited.

Chuuk Lagoon, which stretches nearly 40 miles in diameter, is home to some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world. These beautiful tropical islands are situated 5,150 km west-southwest of Honolulu in the North Pacific Ocean, and about three-quarters of the way between Hawaii and Indonesia. Micronesia is spread over 3 million miles of the Pacific and includes over 2000 islands. The distance from one end of Micronesia to the other is 2,040 nautical miles.

People of Chuuk :
The people of Chuuk are mainly of Micronesian ethnicity, with a Polynesian minority. Most are still subsistence farmers and live simple lives; fishing, weaving and gardening for their keep. The Chuukese are also noted boat makers and navigators.

TIPS ON TRAVELING WITH THE FAMILY TO MICRONESIA
When traveling, most would not agree with ‘the more, the merrier’. But it can be! Well, it should be. Traveling with the family can be hassle- free and loaded with fun. There is no reason you shouldn’t bring the kids and the entire family with you. Here are a few tips you can use for an easy, stress- free travel to micronesia.
Plan with the entire family. Get each family member’s opinion on which places to go. Kids love it when they get involved. Make a short list of the places they want to visit in micronesia and get the majority’s preference. Plan simple yet fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.
Distribute tasks Help each other especially when packing. Give each one a responsibility. You can have your kids check on the first- aid kit, your husband to bring all bulky equipments and you take charge preparing the food. This way, your load can be lessened and everyone would feel the importance of each one’s contribution.
Travel light. Since most of the space of your car would be for people, pack only the essential things you need. If possible you can hire strollers for the kids instead of carrying one. Transfer shampoos, mouthwash and the like in small plastic containers instead of bringing the entire thing. Remember that traveling light doesn’t mean traveling incomplete. Carry all important stuff you need to bring.
Secure your house Since all of your family members are with you on the trip, you can opt to hire a house sitter. If not, have a neighbor look out for the house for you. Unplug all electrical appliances and be sure to secure all door and windows.
Be safe Always carry with you a medicine kit for emergencies. This should include aspirins, laxative, insect repellant, bandages, ointments and alcohol. More importantly, bring enough prescription drugs if any of the family members is on medication. Bring enough to last for the entire duration of the trip.
Bring in the fun Take pictures and videos to document your trip. Take turns in using the camera, this way everyone will get a memorable shot taken. You can take the pictures and put them in a nice travel journal when you get home. This way you can enjoy the fun memories as often as you want.
